CRAFTING YOUR CONCEPT
How to make your story (and pitch) more marketable and sales-worthy
Barnes & Noble, Oakland, CA live

Two things set a successful author's ideas apart with both literary agents and editors: 1. A hot concept and 2. A killer two-sentence pitch.  Fortunately, the idea you already have for a book will usually do nicely. You may just need to tweak the wording a little to make sure it shines.  Please come with a one paragraph description or pitch for your book. This will be a hands
on craft session designed to instantly make your book more marketable.

What people have said about this workshop...

You know how some workshops promise to be "hands on" but aren't really? And some promise results and you leave disappointed? Well THIS workshop was the model for a REAL hands-on experience that DELIVERED. Bella Andre totally involved herself in hammering out a zinger of a pitch for each participant. Like a hungry dog with a delicious bone (I'm a dog lover so for me, it's a GOOD simile) she led us in teasing out the essential elements of the plot, the characters, and the conflict, and then crafting an irresistable three-sentence pitch for each of our manuscripts or concepts. Through her facilitation we all got involved in the process for each writer there. Very valuable, both in delivering that pitch and in teaching an approach to the pitch puzzle that works. ~ Cynthia Kelly

I can't tell you all how much help it was to see how Bella does this. And since we all participated, I think we can now try and do it on our own, too. I'll never write a pitch the same way again, I assure you. Plus, I think her "secret formula" has helped me figure out what was wrong with my WIP! None of us should set off without a "Bella pitch" in our pocket. ~ Tonda Fuller
